PPR Presents Play Play: Miitomo

egardless of how you may feel about the Wii U, the fact that Nintendo has launched a mobile app across major marketplaces like iOS, and Google Play is a really big deal. Even though this is the first piece of software to release outside of the Big N’s proprietary hardware, the app is definitely as “Nintendo” as it can get, and Georgie decides to give you all a tour of the app in action, and what you can do with it.

I mean, it IS free, check out our Play Play, and give it a whirl; oh, and add George because he could use some more friends, that loser…

PPR at GDC 16!

ncoming; we’ve got a late podcast from PPR, and for that; we sincerely apologize, but just know that we’re still here, we’re still kicking, and that’s never going to stop.

So GDC, George went there, and he played a TON of stuff; mostly shit that transported him to immersive worlds through the use of various gaudy headwear tech options that were strapped to his dumb dome. Stuff like Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, Idealswift, and more in this special GDC recap.

Tons of other game talk too, especially Nintendo, and the debut of their app, Miitomo, some Batman V Superman talk, and all those shitty NX leaks that we all had fun with dissecting. What are y’all waiting for? Give it a listen!

QCF: Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon

intendo’s Pokémon property has endured over many years, taking all shapes and sizes beyond the humble role-playing game it once was, but main line of titles not withstanding—one particular spin-off series of Pokémon that really embraced traditional conventions and difficulty curve of the Japanese RPG.

Mystery, Dungeon, or as its most commonly referred to as; the dreaded rogue-like dungeon crawling bastard of a niche RPG sub-genre—something this intimidating doesn’t soundly like it would pair up with a concept like Pokémon very well.

Unsurprisingly, the reality to the success of the concept has been mixed at best over the years. The latest title to grace the series however strives towards an ambitious direction, one that actually takes advantage of the license it’s built around.

QCF: Yoshi's Wooly World

intendo's platformers are the things of legend, so when the Big-N sees fit to release a new entry to one of its most beloved action platforming series, even I'll take notice. In the past, I had be fairly well entertained by the Yoshi's Island series, though I will contest that the best is still the first; Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is by far the greatest platformer on the Super NES, leaving huge shoes that Yoshi's Island DS and other later successors can't hope to fill.

And while it doesn't quite do it, Yoshi's Wooly World, now available for the Wii U home console, is as close as we've come to matching the original's brilliance.

PPR Presents Play Play: Yoshi's Wooly World

lanket out of ten, would blanket again; Nintendo and Good-Feel have dropped an adorable, yarny-ass, yarn take on T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas called Yoshi’s Wooly World, and it’s another one of his cute skirmishes with Baby Bowser.

This game is just too fun to look at.

Ser and George gather round to talk about the yarn dynamics and their role within the game design arc of Yoshi side-scrolling game, along with other features like the Amiibo features, and more.

Who’re we kidding, it’s just a twenty minute video or so of two grown men gushing over how friggin’ kawai Yoshi and his hijinks is; enjoy!

QCF: The Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes

uper Mario isn’t the only Nintendo property that’s hoisted its share of spinoff titles, because there’s certain green-clad hero of legend that’s inching right behind him. In addition to titles like Link’s Crossbow Training, and Hyrule Warriors, the Legend of Zelda franchise has experimented with multiplayer in Four Swords; a cooperative adventure that up to four friends can play, and a fan favorite to this day.

As the online connectivity of the Nintendo 3DS continues to expand, it was only natural that Nintendo would revisit the idea, and add a different spin to it that would distinguish it from its predecessor; The Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes, where three players can work together to solve puzzles that focus on verticality, and well—not much else.

It would seem that the concept didn’t have a whole lot of steam left in it after all as Tri-Force Heroes only manages to recycle familiar dynamics with some superficial additions thrown in, within a networking system that’s actually regressed in terms of performance, and reliability.

QCF: Super Mario Maker

K, so I admit defeat. I caved. I gave in. If you've been listening to the podcast proper, you'll know that I got a Wii-U. It was a moment of weakness. However, it also allowed me to get on the hype train for Super Mario Maker, a title that could easily be the Wii-U's ultimate killer app.

The concept is ludicrously simple; Build a level, no matter how long or short (within the limits the game sets in place both horizontally and vertically) and play it. You can make your stage as easy or as hard as you'd like, and with 120 slots, there's plenty of space for would-be Mario Makers to store a plethora of intricate – or simple – stages for them or their friends to play later. To start though, players only have a basic handful of tiles and enemies that can be placed in their stages.

QCF: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3DS

was on the fringe end of the crowd that played the original Majora's Mask growing up. Admittedly, I never really got into the game that much. The moon terrified me, and the three-day countdown instilled a sense of panic in young me that almost seems irrational now.

So while some Zelda fans approached this game as a nostalgic journey into a childhood classic, I entered into Majora's Mask 3D hoping to find something in the game that had escaped my 10 year old self.

After spending some time with The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D,  I can confidently say that 10 year old Alissa was an idiot for not absolutely falling in love with this game at first sight.
